AJEH Free Patient Residence Building

Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital

Overview

BuiltX was entrusted by Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital to design and construct a dedicated patient housing facility in Parsa, Bihar. This facility is intended to offer comfortable and accessible accommodation for patients traveling from remote and rural areas to receive essential eye care treatment at the hospital.

The Project Owner

Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital (AJEH) is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating curable blindness in Bihar by 2026. Their approach combines affordable and high-quality eye care services with deep community outreach.

  • 80% of their surgeries are free of cost
  • Focus on low-income, rural populations
  • Strong emphasis on women empowerment and leadership in healthcare
  • Operates under the Yugrishi Shriram Sharma Acharya Charitable Trust

The amphitheatre project is a reflection of their broader mission — extending healing not just to the eyes, but to the hearts and souls of the community.

The Challenges

While executing this patient housing facility in rural Bihar, BuiltX encountered several significant challenges. However, our unwavering goal remained the same — to deliver the project on time and within budget without compromising on quality.

1. Architectural Design Delays

The initial building design was delayed, which affected the original construction timeline. This setback required us to fast-track the construction phase, reorganize workflows, and deploy efficient project management strategies to stay aligned with the intended completion date.

2. Tight Timeline & Budget Constraints

With the timeline already compressed, completing the project under a limited budget became even more challenging. BuiltX responded by:

  • Prioritizing critical path tasks
  • Engaging trusted local vendors to reduce logistics costs
  • Implementing cost-efficient construction methods

3. Challenging Rural Location: Parsa, Bihar

The site’s rural setting presented complex logistical hurdles:

  • Inadequate transportation infrastructure
  • Irregular power supply
  • Limited availability of construction materials and skilled labor
  • Delays in regulatory approvals and permits

Despite these issues, BuiltX successfully navigated the rural terrain through strategic sourcing, local workforce training, and close coordination with stakeholders to streamline approvals.

How We Approached It

At BuiltX, we approached the project's challenges with strategic planning, proactive communication, and a commitment to quality and safety. Here’s how we ensured successful execution:

1. Collaborative Design Finalization: We worked in close coordination with the architect to accelerate the design process, ensuring that delays were minimized and construction could begin without further setbacks.

2. Efficient Project Management: Our team implemented a structured project management system, including:

  • Regular site inspections
  • Progress tracking against milestones
  • Immediate corrective actions to maintain build quality and timelines

3. Prioritizing Worker Safety: We established and enforced strict safety protocols across the construction site to protect all workers and subcontractors, aligning with industry best practices and local compliance standards.

Our Achievements

Despite multiple challenges—including design delays, budget limitations, and a remote location—BuiltX successfully delivered the patient housing facility in Parsa, Bihar on time and within the allocated budget. Our results reflect our commitment to client satisfaction, worker safety, and quality construction in healthcare infrastructure.

1. On-Time, On-Budget Completion

We completed the project within the 13-month timeframe and budget constraints, even with a delayed start due to architectural design revisions.

2. Client-Centric Design Execution

BuiltX collaborated closely with Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital to ensure the facility met their functional, aesthetic, and operational needs. From room layout to accessibility, every detail was tailored for patient comfort and care.

3. Robust Safety Protocols

We implemented comprehensive on-site safety measures, including:

  • Mandatory use of helmets, safety belts, and protective footwear
  • Regular safety audits and training sessions
  • Designated safety officers to monitor compliance

The Final Word

This project demonstrates our ability to complete projects on time and within budget, even when there are challenges. We also demonstrated our commitment to safety by ensuring that all workers on site were following safety measures.

We are proud of this project because we were able to help Akhand Jyoti achieve their goal of providing free healthcare to patients in need. The building is designed to be comfortable and welcoming, andit will provide much-needed services to the community.
